Before you begin
Owner or Admin with Developer API access enabled. Have a secure place to store the key.
1. Create the key
Open Settings → Integrations → API and choose New connection. Enter a descriptive Connection name, select its knowledgebases and minimum permissions, and optionally set an Expiry date.
Choose Create API key and store the secret securely when it is displayed.
Give your developer the API reference linked on this page. Keep the secret out of browser code, articles, and screenshots.
2. Validate and maintain access
Have your developer use the API reference to verify each granted permission. Published content, categories, draft creation, draft editing, archiving, restoring, and learning results have separate permissions.
Review Connections for permissions, expiry, and last use.
To stop access, choose Revoke beside the correct key. Update any dependent application when replacing a key.
3. Connect an AI tool with MCP
Open Settings → Integrations → MCP → Setup guide. Find Connect an AI tool with MCP and copy the server URL.
Use New connection to create a dedicated key with only the knowledgebases and permissions the AI tool needs.
In your AI tool, add a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server using that URL. Choose API key authentication or set the Authorization header to Bearer followed by your key.
Your client must support bearer keys or custom headers; OAuth browser sign-in and older SSE-only clients are not supported.
Review and approve article changes in your AI client. Revoke the Beetl connection to stop both API and MCP access.
Check your result
Your application or AI tool can use only the selected knowledgebases and granted permissions. No permission publishes or permanently deletes articles.
If something goes wrong
Unauthorised request: check the Bearer header, key expiry/revocation, and subscription API access.
Repeated request throttling: check the page’s current rate limit and adjust the client’s request rate.
