Before you begin
Owner, Admin or Editor. Identify important existing links and keep a note of the current Reader URL before changing a published article.
1. Review the shared title and description
Open the article editor, then Article properties → SEO. Read the search preview.
Edit the title and description using plain language that describes the task. These fields also change the article heading and description; they are not independent hidden search copy.
The title limit is 180 characters and description limit is 500. Prefer a concise search title under 60 characters and description under 160, without treating those recommendations as a ranking guarantee.
2. Choose a stable slug
Keep the existing slug unless there is a clear reason to change the public address. Use lowercase words separated by hyphens, within the 100-character limit.
Read the generated Canonical URL rather than entering an unrelated website address. Confirm the knowledgebase and article destination are correct.
Let autosave persist the edits and resolve any persistent error before leaving. For published articles, these changes stay in the working draft until republishing.
3. Publish and check links
Review the pending title, description, location and content together. Choose Publish once the required fields are valid; optional editorial review is separate.
Open the published Reader page and confirm its heading, description, URL and audience. Test search after indexing has caught up.
Update navigation, related links, bookmarks and shared references that use the old URL. Test the old address explicitly; do not assume Beetl creates an automatic redirect.
Check your result
Readers see the intended metadata and route after republishing, and important links have been checked.
If something goes wrong
Slug rejected: check the length, lowercase hyphenated format and uniqueness within its destination.
Readers still see the old title or route: confirm you republished rather than only autosaved a working draft.
Search snippet appears stale: verify the live article first, then allow indexing to catch up. External search engines control their own refresh timing.
