Before you begin
Editor, Admin, or Owner. Decide the knowledge to test, what passing means, and where learners will complete it. Assigned Guided Journeys record journey completion. Assessments with Article placement save separate article results. Supported article forms collect optional responses; direct standalone pages are unsaved previews.
1. Build the questions
Open Learning Studio → Assessment.
Enter the assessment title, description, and knowledgebase.
Add questions using the available question types. Write the prompt, answer options where applicable, and the correct answer.
For choice questions, mark the correct option or options explicitly. Check that the question has one clear interpretation.
2. Configure and publish
Continue through Placement and Review, then open Final settings. Set the Pass percentage, Maximum attempts, cooldown, and any time limit.
Review question ordering and the feedback policy. Consider whether answers should appear after submission, after the final attempt, or not automatically.
Save the draft after checking the final settings, then publish it from the assessment library.
For journey completion, add the published assessment to a Guided Journey, publish and assign the journey, then test passing and failing attempts from the learner assignment. For a separate article result, choose Article in Placement, select the article, publish the assessment, insert its learning-tool reference into that article, and test the embedded assessment. Standalone links remain unsaved previews.
Choose question types and marking rules
Use Single choice for one correct answer, Multiple choice when more than one answer is required, True or false for a binary check, or Short or paragraph answer for a written response.
Write an unambiguous prompt and review the answer key and points. Tell learners when they must select every applicable answer.
For written responses, check the manual-marking requirement and assign a review process. A submitted response awaiting marking is not automatically a passed assessment.
Test attempts, feedback and placement
Set Pass percentage, Maximum attempts (1–20), Cooldown between attempts and an optional time limit in minutes. Choose Ordered or Randomised questions and Answer feedback after submission, after the final attempt, or no automatic feedback.
For an example test, use a test-only assessment with four equally weighted questions and a 75% pass threshold: three correct should pass and two should fail. Also test the last permitted attempt, cooldown and any manual-marking state.
Use preview to inspect the assessment, then test its intended delivery context with a fictional learner. A standalone preview does not prove that a published article placement or assigned journey records the same evidence.
Use an Article placement when you need responses within an article. A learning-tool reference can direct readers to a tool without being that placement; journey assignments and Article submissions remain separate sources.
Check your result
The assessment can be reused in the intended learning flow and reports results according to its configured rules.
If something goes wrong
Cannot continue from questions: check that every question has a prompt and valid correct answer.
Journey picker empty: check publication and knowledgebase.
Learner cannot retry: check the attempt limit and current attempt status.
